About the Foundation

The Foundation's mission is to promote healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality health care in our communities.

History
To better support the communities we serve, Tufts Health Plan launched the Tufts Health Plan Foundation in 2008. The creation of a Foundation fulfills a long held desire of James Roosevelt, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Tufts Health Plan to use the assets of the health plan in a way that brings demonstrable improvement to longstanding health care issues.

Tufts Health Plan has a history of supporting nonprofit community programs. In 2007, the health plan contributed nearly $1.1 million to community-based, not-for-profit organizations. Tufts Health Plan will continue its community outreach independently of the Foundation's contributions.

In 2008, the Foundation focused on Disparities, Nursing Faculty Education and Health Consumer Education. The Foundation awarded $2.5 million to more than 60 nonprofit organizations throughout Massachusetts, all with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality health care in our communities. Beginning in 2009, the Foundation's focus is on Healthy Aging - improving the lives of adults 60 and older. Through the programs we fund in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, we hope to elevate the well-being of older adults so as to enable them to live longer, healthier lives.
